Sonified Distance in Sensory Substitution Does Not Always Improve Localization: Comparison With a 2-D and 3-D Handheld Device

چکیده

Early visual to auditory substitution devices encode 2-D monocular images into sounds while more recent use distance information from 3-D sensors. This study assesses whether the addition of sound-encoded in systems helps convey “where” information. is important design new sensory devices. We conducted experiments for object localization and navigation tasks with a handheld audio system. It comprises modes. Both real-time position objects captured by camera. The mode encodes between system object. Experiments have been 16 blindfolded sighted participants. For localization, participants were quicker understand scene that distances. On other hand, only mode, they able compensate lack encoding after small training. navigation, as good than distance.

A 3 D - 1 D Substitution Matrix for Protein

In protein fold recognition, a probe amino acid sequence is compared to a library of representative folds of known structure to identify a structural homolog. In cases where the probe and its homolog have clear sequence similarity, traditional residue substitution matrices have been used to predict the structural similarity. In cases where the probe is sequentially distant from its homolog, we ...

a comparison of teachers and supervisors, with respect to teacher efficacy and reflection

supervisors play an undeniable role in training teachers, before starting their professional experience by preparing them, at the initial years of their teaching by checking their work within the proper framework, and later on during their teaching by assessing their progress. but surprisingly, exploring their attributes, professional demands, and qualifications has remained a neglected theme i...

Walks confined in a quadrant are not always D-finite

We consider planar lattice walks that start from a prescribed position, take their steps in a given finite subset of Z, and always stay in the quadrant x ≥ 0, y ≥ 0. We first give a criterion which guarantees that the length generating function of these walks is D-finite, that is, satisfies a linear differential equation with polynomial coefficients. This criterion applies, among others, to the...

Holography : 2 - D or not 2 - D ?

As was recently pointed out by Cadoni, a certain class of two-dimensional gravitational theories will exhibit (black hole) thermodynamic behavior that is reminiscent of a free field theory. In the current letter, a direct correspondence is established between these two-dimensional models and the strongly curved regime of (arbitrary-dimensional) anti-de Sitter gravity. On this basis, we go on to...
